An underlying understanding of the nature of learning and development is an essential component to teaching children how to learn, regardless of whether they are deaf or hearing
- (Albertini et al. 2002, p. 7)
What is deaf education?
Deaf education involves using a number of various teaching approaches and methods to help students succeed academically. Deaf education differs from general education in that there are extra factors to consider when setting up the classroom or planning a lesson. Each deaf students' needs must be considered in order to create a positive learning environment.
"If there is a problem, it is much more likely to be found in the way that we teach and what we expect from deaf students than in the students themselves" (Albertini et al. 2002, p. 7).
